The bench

Named for a root that dries for six years.

Orrishaw is one perfumer and one assistant in a former jewellery workshop on Vyse Street. We are named for orris — iris root dried for six years before it is worth distilling — because it taught us to work slowly and not to substitute.

Questions about scent, delivery and refills

Anything else, ring the bench on 0121 496 0271 — the perfumer answers the phone.

How does the discovery set credit work?

Every set ships with a single-use code worth £22. Use it on any 50 ml bottle within twelve months and the set has cost you nothing. It works online, by phone and at the bench.

How long does a 50 ml bottle last?

At three or four sprays a day, about five months. Our eaux de parfum are 15–20% concentration, so you need fewer sprays than with most high-street fragrances.

How long does it last on skin?

Between six and ten hours depending on the fragrance and your skin, longer on clothes. Each fragrance page gives the figure our panel measured on skin, not on paper.

How do refills work?

Order a refill, post your empty 50 ml bottle to the bench with the free label we email you, and we refill it from the current batch for £96. It is back with you within a week.

When will my order arrive?

We dispatch on Tuesday and Friday. UK delivery is free and takes one to two working days after dispatch. Europe costs £12, the rest of the world £24.

Still unsure? Take the scent finder or read every question.

Four fragrances. One week to decide.

Order the discovery set for £22, wear each one on your own skin, and the £22 comes off whichever bottle you choose.
